What is it?

DH and I have been watching this “thing” high up in one of our trees.  We thought it was probably a bird’s nest.  One day we came home and found that the gigantic “thing” had fallen.  DH stopped the van, and went over to investigate.  This “thing” was not a bird’s nest, but a giant bee hive!  At least it looked giant to us, as we’ve never seen anything like it!  Luckily, there were no bees in it, so we were able to really check it out!

That is so cool! I think it might be a wasp's nest though. The wasps love to attack our back porch during the Summer and that's usually what their "homes" look like. Although the ones we have here are on a MUCH smaller scale than that one!! :)
